Longer wait for post-mortem on body found in freezer

KUALA LUMPUR: The forensic team assigned to the case of an elderly woman’s remains found in a freezer last week needs more time to complete the post-mortem due to the frozen nature of the body.

Brickfields OCPD Asst Comm Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said the pathologists at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) have to defrost the internal organs before conducting the post-mortem.

The remand for the 53-year-old suspect detained in the case will most likely be extended after the initial remand expires today, ACP Ku Mashariman said yesterday.

The police have recorded the statements of five individuals to assist with the investigation, ACP Ku Mashariman said.

On Nov 12, the suspect contacted the police, saying he was not well and had stuffed his mother’s body in a freezer.

It is learnt that the suspect had financial problems as well as a chronic health problem.

Police identified a personal disagreement as the motive behind the murder.

Sources said the disagreement was over a religious issue.

Police also believed the victim’s body had been kept in the freezer since 2021.
