Sabah Electricity files police report after Lahad Datu villager attacks two employees

KOTA KINABALU: A police report has been filed on Monday (Nov 18) after two Sabah Electricity staff were injured in a vehicle mishap while attempting to flee from an angry villager who obstructed them from carrying out their duties in the Lahad Datu district.

During the 11.30am incident, one worker suffered minor injuries on the left hand while the other sprained his left leg when the company vehicle they were in swerved and landed on its side at an oil plam plantation there.

The utility company, in a statement, said both personnel were at Kampung Sepagaya to conduct an operation to disconnect power supply at homes with electricity bill arrears.

“During the incident, the company vehicle was parked at the side of the road as the staff went through the list of electricity supply disconnections.

"A man in a pickup stopped and angrily tried to force open the door of the Sabah Electricity vehicle.

“In a panic, the staff drove off in an attempt to flee from the angry individual but the culprit gave chase using his own vehicle.

“The situation turned frantic and the staff lost control of the vehicle and skidded to the side of the road towards the oil palm trees.

“A police report has been filed by Sabah Electricity for interfering and obstructing our staff on duty.

“Sabah Electricity will not compromise on any threats involving the safety of our staff ... Legal action will be taken against those who purposely prevent our staff from carrying out their work,” said the utility company.
