Woman killed, man badly hurt in Tawau road crash

KOTA KINABALU: A 20-year-old woman died and a man was seriously hurt after their car crashed into a 4WD vehicle in Tawau district on Monday (Nov 18).

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the accident occurred around 2pm along Jalan Lapangan Terbang Tawau, where the driver and two other passengers in the 4WD escaped unhurt.

"The 20-year-old driver in a hatchback compact car with the female passenger was coming from the direction of the Tawau airport and heading towards the city.

"The pickup driven by a 47-year-old man with his passengers were coming from the opposite direction towards the airport," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 19).

ACP Jasmine said that the car's driver lost control and swerved into the pickup’s lane horizontally causing the collision.

"The female victim who was in the front passenger seat, died while receiving treatment at Balung Health Clinic.

“Investigations continue under Section 41 (1) Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving,” added Jasmin.
