Missing man found dead in Perak River


IPOH: A man reported missing after falling into the Perak River near the Sultan Yusuf Bridge at Batu 5 has been found drowned.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said Ng Weng Lum, 48, from Taman Timur Jalan Sungai Nibong in Teluk Intan, was reported missing on Tuesday (Nov 19) morning.

"The search was carried out within a 12km radius from where the victim was believed to have fallen in.

"His body was found at Kampung Tapak Semenang, about 4.5km from where he was last seen, based on information from local fishermen," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 20).

He added that the victim's body was found at about 9.30am on Wednesday.

"A surface search was conducted in both directions of the Perak River, towards Teluk Intan and Bagan Datuk," he said.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said police received a missing persons report at 1.55am on Tuesday.

"The public discovered the victim's motorcycle by the Sultan Yusuf Bridge in Teluk Intan and found his identity card and driver's licence in the motorcycle's basket.

"The victim's body was identified by his wife," he said in a statement on Wednesday.

"An initial examination found no signs of foul play," he added.

ACP Ahmad Adnan said the body was taken to Hospital Teluk Intan for a post-mortem.
