Pickup truck escapes after leading cops in 180km chase from Johor to KL

MUAR: Police are searching for a dark-coloured Toyota Hilux pickup truck after the vehicle led them in a 180km-long chase across multiple state lines from Johor to Kuala Lumpur.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said a police patrol unit spotted the vehicle running through a red light on Jalan Bakri here at around 2.45am on Wednesday (Nov 20).

"Police told the driver to stop but he sped off.

"We immediately gave chase and as the vehicle approached the Melaka state line, we requested assistance from Melaka police.

"In Melaka, the driver approached the Jasin toll booth and the vehicle hit the toll barrier before entering the North-South Expressway," he said.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said they requested for more backup from Bukit Aman and Kuala Lumpur traffic police.

"In total, nine police cars were involved in the chase.

"The vehicle crashed through the barrier at the Sungai Besi toll plaza and drove up a cliff, which our cars could not go up.

"The 4x4 vehicle then entered the opposite lane on Jalan Chan Sow Lin in Kuala Lumpur to evade arrest," he added.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said efforts to find the suspect's vehicle are still ongoing and an investigation was opened under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He urged those with information to relay information by contacting Muar police district police headquarters hotline at 06-952 6001.
