A WOMAN in Nanchang, Jiangxi, China who is pregnant with nine babies, had to go through foetal reduction surgery in stages to ensure her safety, China Press reported.

Sharing her experience in a social media post, she said she followed the doctor’s advice to remove seven foetuses as the pregnancy was taking a toll on her health.

The doctor recommended a two-stage reduction procedure as removing seven foetuses at once would result in a high risk of miscarriage for the remaining babies.

The woman’s husband also shared his worries in the social media post.

“Seeing my wife unable to eat and too weak to even speak breaks my heart. Over the past two weeks, she hasn’t been able to absorb much nutrition and has had to rely on hospital-administered nutritional drips to sustain the pregnancy,” he said.

Experts note that the likelihood of conceiving multiple babies is extremely low. For instance, the probability of naturally conceiving twins is about one in 89, while triplets occur at a rate of approximately one in 8,000 to 10,000.
