JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested six men in connection with a 180km car chase from Muar to Kuala Lumpur in the early hours of Wednesday (Nov 20).
Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the suspects, aged between 25 and 35 years old, were detained during a series of raids in the Damansara area at about 7am on Thursday (Nov 21).
"We also seized two four-wheel drive vehicles, including the Toyota Hilux involved in the car chase.
"Based on initial investigations, we believe the two vehicles seized from the suspects were rented," he said during a press conference at the Johor police headquarters here on Thursday (Nov 21).
He said this after witnessing the handing over of duties ceremony between outgoing Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Afandi Senin and new acting state deputy chief Senior Asst Comm Nor Azizi Maarof.
Comm Kumar added that the police are also investigating whether the group is linked to any criminal activities.
"We found tools commonly used for cable theft in one of the vehicles.
"We are still investigating the matter, including identifying the suspect who was driving the four-wheel-drive vehicle," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
On Wednesday (Nov 20), Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police were on the lookout for a Toyota Hilux pickup truck that led them on a 180km chase across multiple state lines from Johor to Kuala Lumpur.
"Police instructed the driver to stop, but he sped off.
"We immediately gave chase and, as the vehicle approached the Melaka state line, we requested assistance from Melaka police," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
