Cops pursue elusive Hilux over 180km

MUAR: Police are searching for a dark-coloured Toyota Hilux pickup truck after the vehicle led them over a 180km chase, crossing state lines into Kuala Lumpur.

Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the chase started after a patrol car spotted the vehicle beating a red light at a junction along Jalan Bakri here at about 2.45am yesterday.

“Police ordered the driver to stop, but he suddenly sped off.

“The patrol car pursued the vehicle which was heading towards Melaka and we then sought assistance from Melaka police.

“In Melaka, the driver headed towards the Jasin toll exit, where the vehicle hit the toll barrier.

“The vehicle then entered the North-South Expressway heading north,” he said.

ACP Raiz Mukhliz said his men then requested for more backup from Bukit Aman and Kuala Lumpur traffic police, which deployed more units for assistance.

“In total, nine police cars were involved in the chase. The truck also crashed through the barrier at the Sungai Besi toll plaza,” he said.ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the search for the driver and the truck was still ongoing, adding that the investigation was under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He appealed to those with information to contact the Muar police hotline at 06-952 6001.
