PETALING JAYA: Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Karim (pic) has been hauled up by PKR's disciplinary board over his open criticism of a number of issues, including the U Mobile 5G network deal.
The outspoken PKR lawmaker faced the board for over an hour from 3pm on Thursday (Nov 21).
"Yes, I was called to appear before the disciplinary board," he said on Thursday (Nov 21).
Hassan declined to divulge what had transpired during the hearing and said queries should be directed to the board.
In a social media post on Nov 5, Hassan had criticised the award of the second 5G network deal to the telco and compared it to the rise of crony capitalism.
He has also been critical about Johor's decision to revert its weekend break to Saturday and Sunday as well as the need for Umno to revamp its leadership.
Besides speaking out in the Dewan Rakyat, Hassan had also aired his views on social media.
When contacted, PKR secretary-general Senator Fuziah Salleh said that she had received complaints from several PKR central committee members.
"There were complaints made by the central committee regarding Hassan's public statements
"I forwarded the complaints to the disciplinary board so that the matter can be investigated and his grievances discussed within the party," she said when contacted on Thursday.
Fuziah added she was not privy to other details as the disciplinary board acted independently.
When contacted, PKR's disciplinary board chairman Datin Dr Tan Yee Kew said Hasan was "called to explain himself."
"When the disciplinary board receives complaints we will call for a hearing to allow the person concerned to explain himself.
"This is the normal SOP of the board to refer its findings to the PKR central leadership council for a final decision," she said.
Asked if Hasan's criticism over the U Mobile issue was the main issue, she said "it is related but that was not the main issue."
"We just want to hear the reason for making the statements. It is not very serious, we do it all the time," she said.
Tan said Hassan may not be summoned again.
"We just want to find out from him and give him a chance to explain. That's all," she said.
Last month, the newly minted PKR secretary-general urged Hassan to air his views through internal party channels instead of making them public.
Hassan had previously said that he was ready to face disciplinary action for his outspoken views on the deal awarded to U Mobile as the country's second 5G network provider.
