KUALA LUMPUR: A former employee of an entertainment company has pleaded not guilty at the Magistrate's Court here to a charge of fraud involving the purchase of 36 concert tickets for Andy Lau and Jay Chou, amounting to RM67,608, between May and September.
The accused, Thomas Lee Huat Sheng, 30, who is unemployed, made the plea after the charge was read before Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin on Thursday (Nov 21), according to Sinar Harian.
The father of two was charged with deceiving a 38-year-old real estate agent in a non-existent transaction, involving 16 VIP tickets for the “Today... Is The Day, Andy Lau Concert Tour 2024 in Malaysia” scheduled from Oct 24 to 27 at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil.
It also involved 20 VIP tickets for the “Jay Chou's Carnival World Tour 2024 Concert in Malaysia” scheduled for Oct 26 at the National Stadium, Bukit Jalil.
The accused was alleged to have induced the victim to transfer a total of RM67,608 through three transactions into the accused's CIMB Bank account.
The offence was allegedly committed at a premises in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, between May 25 and Sept 5.
The charge was made under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of imprisonment ranging from one to ten years, whipping, and a fine upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzat Amir Idham asked for a bail of RM10,000 with one guarantor.
However, the accused's lawyer, Norashikin Ibrahim, urged for a lower amount, saying that the accused suffers from bipolar disorder and has to care for two children aged five and seven.
"He is also a single father, unemployed, and has to live with his family," said Izzat.
Aina Azahra allowed a bail of RM10,000 and set Jan 7 for mention.
