KOTA BARU: Nenggiri assemblyman Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani has been sworn into office at the third session of the second term of the 15th Kelantan state assembly at the Kota Darulnaim Complex here on Thursday (Nov 21).

Mohd Azmawi, 38, took the oath before the Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reported.

“I solemnly swear that I will faithfully perform my duties as a member to the best of my ability, that I will be loyal and will truly obey the state of Kelantan and that I will preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the state of Kelantan.

“I swear that I will be loyal and will truly obey His Majesty the Sultan of Kelantan and his lawful heirs,” Mohd Azmawi, who is also Kelantan Umno Youth chief, swore.

Representing Barisan Nasional (BN), Mohd Azmawi garnered 9,091 votes to defeat Perikatan Nasional candidate Mohd Rizwadi Ismail in the Nenggiri by-election on Aug 17.

Mohd Azmawi Fikri won by a majority of 3,352 votes, enabling BN to regain the seat, which was previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Bersatu).

The by-election was held after Mohd Azizi lost his Bersatu membership and was stripped of his position as Nenggiri assemblyman.
