KUALA LUMPUR: Other countries have sought Malaysia’s expertise in addressing corruption, the Dewan Rakyat heard.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Qatar has requested Malaysia to draft a programme to combat corruption.
“We have improved our image not only through the corruption perception index but also we are recognised by other countries seeking cooperation.
“Next week, the Qatar government has requested for an entourage led by a minister and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to collaborate in drafting a programme to combat corruption,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time here Thursday (Nov 21).
Anwar who is also the Finance Minister was replying to a question from Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) on the performance level of the Madani government after two years of being in power, particularly in the implementation of various reform promises, efforts in combating corruption, among others.
In a related matter, Anwar stressed that the government will continue to combat corruption including those allegedly involving Sabah state assemblymen.
He said that addressing corruption is a big task but the work will continue even though the cases involve those from the wealthy group.
“I know it is not easy to wage a war on corruption especially when it involves the rich due to their large supporters.
“But I have been informed by the MACC that this will continue to investigate including the recent cases raised in Sabah, the commission said they will continue the investigation with the state assemblymen being called. But that is all the information I can share.
“Claims that there are efforts to cover up or prevent an investigation are completely false,” he added.
