Three Bills passed in state assembly as Sabah Budget 2025 sitting ends

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Budget 2025 sitting ended with a total of three Bills passed unanimously on Thursday.

The Bills that were given the green light were the Parks Enactment (Amendment) 2024, the Agricultural Produce Board (Amendment) 2024 and the Muslim Adoption Enactment (Amendment) 2024.

Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya made the announcements after the third reading of the Bills by the respective state ministers.

Kadzim, at the end of the sitting, also did not rule out the possibility this might be the last session for the current state lawmakers, with the state election on the horizon.

After his Christmas and New Year greetings to the assemblymen, he delivered a pantun (traditional Malay poem), with the last two verses saying “doa saya kepada YB semua, semoga PRN17 dicalonkan lagi” (my prayers for all assemblymen, may you will be fielded again in the 17th state election).

The current term for the state assembly ends next September.

The state assembly had earlier on Wednesday (Nov 20) approved the Supply Bill 2025 (Sabah Budget 2025) after a debate and winding up session on Monday (Nov 18).

It was passed after receiving the support of the majority of Sabah state assemblymen through a voice vote.

Last Friday (Nov 15), state Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun presented the RM6.42bil budget, which is also the highest in the state’s history, with an estimated surplus of RM24.08mil.

Masidi, when tabling the budget with the theme "Prosperous Sabah, Prosperous People", said the state government projected revenue of RM6.44bil next year, making it a surplus budget.
