Five nabbed in Tawau drug den raid

KOTA KINABALU: Five drug addicts, including two women, were caught red-handed during a raid at a house in Jalan Utara Baru, Tawau.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the raid, conducted at 7.15pm on Wednesday (Nov 20), followed observations of suspicious activity at the location.

“Upon entering the house, officers found five individuals, aged between 32 and 48 years old, gathered at a table.

"While no illegal items were found on the suspects during a body search, two packets of clear substances, believed to be syabu, and drug paraphernalia were discovered on the table,” he said.

The house had been identified as a frequent gathering spot, or "port", for drug users, he added.

Further checks revealed that all five suspects had prior convictions, including for drug-related offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 12(3) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a penalty of up to RM100,000, imprisonment for up to five years, or both.
