Johor's proposed 4.5-day work week may be discussed at upcoming M'sia-S'pore retreat, says Fahmi


PUTRAJAYA: The Johor government's proposed 4.5-day work week may be discussed at the upcoming Malaysia-Singapore Annual Leaders' Retreat, says Fahmi Fadzil.

The unity government spokesman, however, confirmed that the matter was not discussed in Friday's (Nov 22) Cabinet meeting.

"This was not discussed (in the Cabinet meeting ), although it might be looked into briefly during the Malaysia-Singapore Annual Leaders' Retreat on Dec 8 and 9," he told a post-Cabinet meeting press conference here Friday.

On Thursday (Nov 21),the Johor government said it was prepared to consider a 4.5-day work week if the state government can improve its service delivery to the people.

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government, with Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim's blessings, was ready to consider a shorter work week for the public sector in the future.

The Johor Mentri Besar said the state government would continue improving its productivity and service delivery systems to the people through various initiatives for now.

“This will be done by strengthening our digital services and lengthening the operating hours at critical counters, including operating during lunch hour from 1pm to 2pm."
