Mother dies, two children hurt in East Coast Highway accident


DUNGUN: A woman was killed and her two children were injured in an accident at KM341.2 of the East Coast Highway 2 (LPT2), here on Thursday (Nov 21).

Wan Asliza Wan Abdullah Sani, 44, died on the spot after suffering severe injuries to her neck in the 10.23am incident.

Her two children, Wan Nur Nisa Qistina Wan Zulfan, 20, and Muhammad Ayyash Mikael Nordin, aged one year and six months, only suffered minor injuries.

It is learnt that they were travelling from Kuantan, Pahang to Kota Baru, Kelantan to visit a sick relative, reported Sinar Harian.

Dungun District Police Chief Supt Maizura Abdul Kadir said Wan Asliza was believed to have hit a concrete barrier before she was flung out from the car.

"The victim's body was then removed by a team of firefighters from the Paka Fire and Rescue Station before being handed over to the police," she said.

Supt Maizura said the victim's body was then sent to the Forensic Department of Dungun Hospital for further action while her two children were also taken to the same hospital for treatment.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," she said.
