A WOMAN who was caught stealing from a hawker’s icebox in Johor Baru was found to be a habitual offender, reported China Press.
The incident took place at an alley in Taman Pelangi where a Hokkien mee seller stored her cooking ingredients in an icebox.
CCTV captured footage of a woman dressed in grey and wearing a mask opening the box lid, taking out some foodstuff before leaving at 12.24pm on Tuesday.
She was seen returning five minutes later and taking most of what remained in the icebox.
When the hawker, known only as Madam Bai, realised that her ingredients had been stolen, she posted the CCTV footage online and chided the thief.
“If you are facing financial difficulties, just tell us and we can cook for you. Please do not resort to such action as its undermines our hard work and disrupts our business,” she said.
When interviewed, Bai told the daily that the woman had nicked a Chinese cabbage, some tomatoes and carrots, and 5kg of clams.
Bai added that other local operators informed her that the same woman had also pilfered from their stores and warned her to be more careful in future.
“This was the first time it happened to me,” she said, adding that she was willing to help if the woman was in genuine trouble.
> A 52-year-old man in Karak, Pahang, unhappy with the noise made by a motorcycle, walked into a workshop to confront and attack a mechanic with a knife, reported Sin Chew Daily.
The man got off his motorcycle and walked into the workshop holding a knife before accusing one of the mechanics of making a racket in the neighbourhood with a motorcycle, on Nov 18.
The mechanic, in his 20s, explained that the machine made a loud noise as it was in need of repair and that he was not intentionally being a nuisance.
The knife-wielding man was unsatisfied with the explanation and continued to lecture the younger man on the need to keep the roads safe for local residents and children by reducing speed.
Their verbal altercation soon turned physical as the older man was seen trying to attack the mechanic with the knife.
Police arrested the older man the next day and confiscated the knife, according to Bentong OCPD Supt Zaiham Mohd Kahar.
The suspect, who was remanded for investigation, has no criminal record and did not test positive for drugs.
