Dr M backs ICC's war crime charges, arrest warrants for Netanyahu, Gallant

KUALA TERENGGANU: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed his support for the International Criminal Court's (ICC) decision to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on the grounds of alleged war crimes in Gaza.

He described the decision as justified, stating that the Israeli leaders are accountable for the deaths of Palestinians and should be penalised accordingly.

"Netanyahu and Gallant are war criminals. They are guilty of murder. Even the killing of one person is a crime, but they have taken the lives of 44,000 Muslims.

"These are no petty criminals, they deserve to be hanged," he told reporters after his keynote speech at the Terengganu International Summit 2024 Saturday (Nov 23).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also voiced his approval of the ICC's decision on Friday (Nov 22), describing it as founded on law and evidence of the ongoing oppression, atrocities and killings by the Zionist regime.

On Thursday (Nov 21), the ICC publicised the issuance of arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Gallant for alleged war crimes committed in Palestinian territories, including Gaza.

These warrants have been issued as Israel's genocidal attacks on Gaza mark their second year.

The Palestinian death toll has reached approximately 44,000, a majority of whom are women and children, while over 103,000 others have sustained injuries. – Bernama
