Flood alert: 647 evacuees displaced in five states, says Civil Defence


PETALING JAYA: Some 647 victims have been displaced due to floods as of 4pm Saturday (Nov 23).

According to the Civil Defence Force’s Disaster Management Secretariat, Terengganu had the most evacuees with 321.

The affected districts are Kemaman, Marang, Dungun, Besut and Hulu Terengganu.

In Melaka, some 268 victims were recorded in Melaka Tengah, followed by Bachok in Kelantan (40), Segamat in Johor (11) and Kuala Langat in Selangor (seven).

A total of 19 temporary relief centres are currently activated nationwide.

Malaysia is currently experiencing the northeast monsoon which began on Nov 5 and is expected to last until March next year.

According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, there could be between five and seven episodes of heavy rainfall during this period.
