Four opposition states receive higher royalties under Madani govt, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Four opposition-led states have received higher royalties compared to the period under the previous government, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister stated that Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis have obtained larger amounts of royalties under the Madani government.

"If we tally the amounts, it is higher than the total royalties we (the Federal) receive. However, sometimes this does not reach the people.

"But that is often due to politics. The Federal has always considered and approved any requested allocations, such as the more than RM2mil approved for the flood in Tasik Kenyir, Terengganu," he said during a town hall session held in conjunction with the Madani government's two-year anniversary celebration on Saturday (Nov 23).

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, urged all state leaders, including the menteri besar from opposition-led states, to put aside political differences and ensure smooth cooperation between the federal and state governments for the benefit of the people.

He said he has instructed ministers to visit the states and hold discussions with the menteri besar, including those from the four opposition states.

"The issue of cooperation is very clear. If the state adopts a positive stance, it will make things easier. But if the state takes on a hostile approach, it will complicate matters," Anwar said.
