KUALA LUMPUR: Integrity, transparency, and accountability are key values that need to be fortified among civil servants to meet contemporary challenges and fulfil the aspirations of the people, says Datuk Dr Anesee Ibrahim (pic).
The Public Services Department deputy director-general (development) emphasised that integrity is a fundamental pillar of the public service reform framework and strengthening it among civil servants will ensure the relevance of the public service.
"I am convinced that the solution to governance issues lies in integrity. If we can ensure all civil servants possess strong integrity, governance will naturally improve.
"This will help decrease, or even eliminate, issues such as leakages, thereby enhancing public trust in the government,” he stated.
He made these remarks during the forum titled "Pembangunan Modal Insan Penjawat Awam: Antara Cabaran dan Harapan", held in conjunction with the Two Years of Madani Government Programme and the 2024 National Convention on Public Service Reform at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on Saturday (Nov 23).
The forum, moderated by National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN) senior deputy director (competence development) Datuk Dr Haniff Zainal Abidin, also featured Public Service Commission chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Jailani Muhamed Yunus as a panellist.
Ahmad Jailani proposed that nurturing a culture of knowledge sharing within the public sector could augment the productivity and effectiveness of public service delivery for the community.
He suggested that regular performance evaluations, mentor-mentee programmes, cross-trainings, and job rotations could be implemented to promote a culture of knowledge sharing in strengthening public service capabilities.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister’s Office media and strategic communication advisor, Datuk Seri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly, underscored the importance of public service branding in reform efforts during a plenary session titled "Peranan Komunikasi dalam Meningkatkan Kecekapan Perkhidmatan Awam."
He clarified that effective branding was vital in communicating the values, mission, and commitment of agencies to delivering top-tier services to the public.
Shazalli said that through consistent and transparent messaging, government agencies would cultivate a dependable image, thereby boosting public confidence.
The convention also featured discourse sessions by representatives from the government, private sectors, and academia on topics such as democratising the public service and governance reform in public service.
The closing ceremony is scheduled to be officiated by the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, on Sunday (Nov 24). – Bernama
