Malaysia’s beauty queen Sandra Lim comes home, grateful for crowd support at KLIA


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s beauty queen Sandra Lim who made it to the top 30 in the Miss Universe competition has arrived in Malaysia.

Upon her arrival at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Sandra was greeted by hundreds of Malaysians who had waited for her arrival since 7am on Saturday (Nov 23).

Dressed in a green pant-suit and holding a bouquet of flowers gifted by a fan, Sandra expressed her happiness upon arriving home in her Instagram video said: "Terima Kasih, Sandra sudah balik.

"I feel so grateful that everyone came here to celebrate this moment with me. Demi tanahairku, terima kasih Malaysia," she added.

Previously, In an Instagram post on Friday (Nov 21), Sandra wrote: “My beloved Malaysia, I’m finally coming back to Malaysia after one month.”

Responding excitedly, fellow Malaysians in the hundreds welcomed her back by turning up at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on Saturday.

Sandra whose flight landed at 8.30am is the talk of the town and pride of Malaysia after she ended Malaysia’s 53-year drought on the Miss World platform.

On social media, her homecoming is welcomed by many Malaysians.

One user, @sandraforuniverse said: “Welcome home our Queen, our Walinong Sari warrior and our pride.”

Another user @missmalaysiapageant wrote: “Jom turun ramai2 ke KLIA utk sambut @sandralimofficial (Let’s all go to KLIA to welcome @sandralimofficial.”

User @shahzzey90, has encouraged Malaysians living near the airport to make their way to welcome Lim home.

Echoing @shahzzey90 is @hfzddn_fiz and @helisanazz also called Malaysians living near the airport to welcome her homecoming.

With hundreds of welcoming home wishes and more than 2.5 likes on Instagram, Sandra has made a huge impact, evident in the support shown by fellow Malaysians from all walks of life.

Sandra is the second Malaysian representative in history to make it to this stage, according to Kosmo.

The first and last time Malaysia made it to the top was in 1970, represented by Josephine Lena Wong.

Sandra delivered a stunning performance during the preliminary round (prelims) held last Friday, where she donned a national costume.

Her performance in the national costume segment, featuring the "Walinong Sari" attire, as well as the swimsuit segment, was circulated worldwide on social media.

“Malaysia’s name was heard in Mexico. Congratulations, Sandra. You’ve finally ended the 53-year “drought” in Miss Universe. Malaysia boleh!” commented a netizen.

A total of 130 countries participated in the Miss Universe 2024 competition, making it the largest participation in the history of the event.
