BUTTERWORTH: A Myanmar national who gouged out the left eye of a man has pleaded guilty to causing severe injury and permanent disability to the victim at the Magistrate’s Court here.
Murtabis, 28, entered the plea before Assistant Registrar of the Court Mohamad Azrul Muhd Sobri yesterday.
According to the charge, Murtabis had caused severe injury to M. Gunalan, 52, in Jalan Ara Kuda, Tasek Gelugor, at 2pm on Nov 16, reported Astro Awani.
The charge under Section 325 of the Penal Code carries a maximum seven-year imprisonment and a fine, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, in the same court, Murtabis also pleaded guilty to a charge of not possessing valid travel documents.
The offence was committed at Kampung Simpang Tiga Tasek Gelugor at 3pm on the same day.
For this offence, he was charged under Section 6(1)(C) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which provides for a fine not exceeding RM10,000, a maximum five-year jail or both, and not more than six strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Airina Syazreen Zainurin prosecuted while Murtabis was unrepresented.
No bail was granted as he is not a citizen. The court set Dec 13 for next mention.
