Shopping centre and restaurant raided after video of foreigners buying packet oil goes viral

PETALING JAYA: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has raided a shopping centre and nasi kandar restaurant after a video of foreigners buying packet oil went viral.

Selangor Dometic Trade director, Mohd Zuhairi Mat Radey said checks were conducted by his ministry personnel at two premises near each other and it showed records of three foreign workers from a nasi kandar restaurant buying the oil.

"The purchase was done individually with each buying two packets which is within the limit and for their personal use, Sinar Harian quoted him as saying on Saturday (Nov 23).

"The raid on the restaurant showed the premises did not use the 1kg packet but only 5kg packets which were found at the stock keeping section and kitchen.

Mohd Zuhairi said the man who was in his 40s had his conversation recorded as his premises had a valid business licence and had been operating for four months.

"The restaurant's owner also had his statement recorded with another Bangladeshi whose video went viral and had a valid passport.

He urged the public to inform the department of any manipulative or suspicious business practices which involved controlled or subsidised products.

Earlier, a 13-second video on social media showing three foreigners carrying packet oil from a shopping centre has gone viral leading to various speculations.
