IPOH: The police have arrested six people and seized about RM41,000 worth of ketum leaves and drinks during a raid at Taman Pakatan Jaya here.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the six people, aged 24 to 42, were arrested at a house at the residential area on Friday (Nov 22) at about 12.10am.
"We seized 10 large containers with 3,000 packets of ketum drinks with a volume of about 900 litres.
"The drinks that were seized were meant for local distribution and could be consumed by 3,000 people," he said in a statement on Saturday (Nov 23).
"We also confiscated 35 plastic bags containing about 350kg of ketum leaves, three gas cylinders and two pots," he added.
ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said of the six men, one was tested positive for drugs.
"Another was found to have three cases related to the Drug Dependants Act, while another one had previously been arrested for a case under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act.
"The syndicate is believed to have been actively distributing the drink since 2022," he said.
"All six will be remanded for three days until Sunday (Nov 24) to facilitate investigations under Section 30 (3) of the Poisons Act and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act," he added.
ACP Abang Zainal Abidin said the case was a success due to the continuous cooperation with the people.
"We urge the people to continue forwarding any information related to drug abuse so that actions can be taken to ensure the state is free from drugs," he said.
