Teenager dies, another hurt after m-bike crashes into car

KOTA KINABALU: A teenager was killed while another sustained injuries after the motorcycle they were riding collided into a car early Friday (Nov 22).

The student from SMK Bandaraya in Menggatal near here, had gone out for lunch with a female schoolmate on the motorcycle to buy food from a nearby stall.

It is learnt that they met with an accident on their way back to school at around 1.30pm.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the two victims were rushed to the hospital following the mishap, but the boy succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital.

The girl, however, is still being treated, he said, adding that initial investigations showed that the victims had crashed into a car in front of them.

He said based on witness accounts, the car was turning into a junction when the motorcycle tried to overtake but hit the side of the vehicle instead.

The impact caused the motorcyclist to lose control and swerve before crashing.

ACP Kasim said the case is being investigated for reckless driving under the Road Transport Act 1987.

He reminded the public to be careful on the road and to adhere to traffic laws to prevent accidents.
