Thunderstorms expected in 11 states, two FTs till 9pm tonight, says MetMalaysia


PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast in several locations across Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor

In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department at 5pm Saturday (Nov 22), thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected over Perlis, Kedah (Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Pendang, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu), Penang, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Muallim, Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis and Raub), Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan (Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau), Melaka, and Johor (Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Baru) on the peninsula.

Thunderstorms are also expected in Kuching (Bau and Kuching), serian, Samarahan (Simunjan), Sri Aman, Betong (Betong), Kapit (Belaga), Bintulu, Miri and Limbang in Sarawak.

In Sabah, the affected areas are Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort and Nabawan) and Tawau.

The warning is effective until 9pm Saturday.

According to MetMalaysia, a thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issue.

A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with an intensity of rain exceeding 20 millimetres per hour (mm/hour) that is imminent or expected to occur for more than an hour.
