LUMUT: A man’s car was stripped of two rear tyres at a parking area near a jetty here.

The vehicle owner only discovered the incident after being informed by a friend through a phone call around 3pm on Friday (Nov 22).

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the victim was in Pangkor Island when the incident happened and had parked in the area since Nov 14.

"The incident caused the victim to suffer almost RM2,000 in losses.

"A police report has been lodged and efforts are being made to track down the suspect involved," he said in a statement here on Saturday (Nov 23).

ACP Hasbullah said the case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

On Saturday, a 36-second video went viral on social media showing a man claiming his car’s rear tires, including the rims, had been stolen.

In the recording, a suspect is also shown using a tyre jack to lift the vehicle before removing the tyres.

Despite paying a parking fee of RM150 a month, the victim said he was disappointed with the operator as surveillance was not prioritised, resulting in theft.
