KUALA LUMPUR: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry on Sunday launched the new National Children’s Policy, focusing on the protection, development, and participation of children.
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the policy is built on three key pillars.
“The policy primarily aims to protect children from violence, exploitation, and neglect. At the same time, it ensures holistic development that encompasses physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual growth.
“The third pillar is fostering meaningful participation, enabling children to have a voice in decision-making processes that directly affect their lives.
“This policy marks a significant step in prioritising the welfare of our children by focusing on their protection, development, and active involvement in shaping their futures,” she said.
Nancy made the remarks during her speech at the National Children’s Day 2024 celebration held at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) on Sunday (Nov 24). Former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was also present at the event.
The policy will be implemented through four objectives: improving children’s survival, strengthening their protection, ensuring holistic development, and increasing their participation in various aspects of life.
“The ultimate goal is to nurture children who can reach their full potential and become well-rounded individuals—healthy, knowledgeable, innovative, creative, and instilled with values that contribute to Malaysia’s prosperity,” she added.
Nancy highlighted that the framework was developed under the ministry’s Social Welfare Department and seeks to raise a generation of children who are resilient, competitive, progressive, and morally upright.
She emphasised that the new policy reflects the government’s commitment to addressing children’s needs with care and attention while ensuring their voices are integral in decisions that impact their lives.
