Sabah PKR gathering evidence to dispel corruption allegations against PM

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR is compiling evidence to dispel allegations that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim shielded several state assemblymen said to be corrupt.

Its information chief Razeef Rakimin said the evidence, to support a police report to be lodged on Monday (Nov 25), would include material shared on social media.

He described such allegations as defamatory, which targeted a leader known for his firm stance against graft.

"We are aware of calls urging the Prime Minister to pressure the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to take immediate action against those involved.

"Interfering with MACC investigations, including pushing for hasty action, also amounts to power abuse.

"We have full faith in MACC's ability to conduct an impartial investigation," Razeef said during a press conference on Sunday (Nov 24).

A news portal recently revealed some videos purportedly showing Sabah assemblymen discussing bribes ranging from hundreds of thousands to RM4mil to secure projects in Sabah.

When asked if the whistleblower is eligible for protection under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010, Razeef said that anyone reporting a crime deserves protection.

"However, in this instance, the whistleblower also offered bribes, disqualifying him from receiving protection. He should also be investigated," said Razeef.

The Sabah government has since lodged a report with the MACC against Jontih Enggihon, the Mineral Management Sdn Bhd's chief executive officer.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor called for a thorough investigation and assured the state government would fully cooperate with the probe.
