High Court seizes assets of cosmetics mogul Datuk Vida over RM1mil debt

IPOH: Cosmetics mogul Datuk Seri Hasmiza Othman, popularly known as Datuk Vida, had all the items inside her house and four cars sealed by the Kuala Lumpur High Court as a sub-construction company seeks to recover more than RM1mil in debt.

Hasmiza failed to settle a debt of RM1,060,285 for the renovation of her factory in Shah Alam into a studio.

An Ipoh High Court bailiff, along with the company’s lawyer Samir Zainal and sub-contractor Mohamad Taufik Kamarul, who suffered losses, arrived at her house on Persiaran Bukit Meru at 9am on Monday (Nov 25).

However, they were only allowed entry at about 10.30am after several of Hasmiza’s staff arrived.

Samir stated that on Oct 29 last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court had issued a judgement for Vida to settle her debts, which she has failed to do.

He explained that a writ of seizure and sale was obtained from the court.

"It took the bailiff nearly four hours to tag all items from the house, except for Vida’s room, which was locked.

"She is given two weeks to settle the debt; otherwise, all the items will be auctioned off. She has until Dec 9 to do so," he said outside Vida’s house.

Samir added that he was informed by Vida’s staff that she is currently in China and that she would contact him soon regarding the matter.

"We received cooperation from her staff during the process," he said.

Mohamad Taufik stated that he has been trying to recover his money for six years since 2018.

He explained that Vida had hired a consultancy company for the renovation work, which then engaged his services for the job.

"However, when the job was completed, the company could not pay me as Vida had not paid the company.

"Thus, I had to file a bankruptcy case against the company, and a liquidator was appointed to act on behalf of the company," he said.

A spokesman for Vida told reporters that she was overseas at the moment.

"There will not be any statement from her for now," he said.
