THE local Tamil literary world lost a leading figure with the passing of writer, poet and journalist K. Muniandy at the age of 76, Malaysia Nanban reported.

He died in his hometown of Sitiawan, Perak, last Thursday.

Muniandy recently presented a paper on modern Tamil poetry at a conference organised by the Perak Puthukavithai Mandram, which was well received within the literary community.

The veteran was president of the Dindings Thiruvalluvar Mandram before his death.

He continued his literary journey well into his advanced age and received numerous awards for his literary works and criticisms, the daily said.

> Malaysia Nanban also reported that twins S. Yamuna and S. Yasotha were driven by their grandmother to excel in their education after they lost their father at a young age and faced many other family tragedies.

Her sacrifices and motivation allowed the sisters to gain their bachelor’s degrees in accounting at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

The sisters, who also won special commendation awards, said they were grateful for all their grandmother’s efforts.
