SHAH ALAM: The Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) have not made any decisions regarding negotiations to form a new alignment within the Unity Government, as alleged by Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
Perikatan Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (pic) stated that the coalition denies such claims and rejects any involvement in persuading Barisan to leave the Unity Government.
"As a Bersatu vice-president and a member of the Bersatu Supreme Leadership Council as well as the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council, to my knowledge, no decisions have been made by either party concerning alignment negotiations," he told Sinar Harian.
On Sunday (Nov 24), Ahmad Zahid, while speaking at the Barisan Federal Territory Convention at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, alleged that there were efforts to pull his party out of the Unity Government and to elevate a Barisan member as the prime minister.
The Deputy Prime Minister revealed that it is among the opposition's efforts to return to power.
He added that a Member of Parliament met him last week to express a desire to form a new government under the Unity Government banner.
At the same time, the individual also requested to be reintegrated into the government and sought a ministerial position.
However, Ahmad Zahid emphasised that he was not at all interested in the offer and rejected such proposals as he did not wish to betray his allies.
Commenting further, Ronald expressed that Perikatan Nasional intends to focus solely on its responsibilities as the opposition without concerning itself with other matters.
"Perikatan Nasional takes pride in its role as the opposition and will continue to play a role in providing checks and balances to the government," said the Beluran MP.
