Three in family killed in early morning Bandar Permaisuri car crash

BANDAR PERMAISURI: Three family members were killed and one seriously injured after their car collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle (4WD) in Kampung Sungai Lerek at KM53 of Jalan Persekutuan Kuala Terengganu-Kota Baru on Monday (Nov 25).

Setiu OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Zain Mat Dris said that the victims of the 4.50am accident were husband and wife Kamarudin Ibrahim, 55, and Maimunah Mat Isa, 54, alongside their daughter Nur Ardieana Kamarudin, 30, who was driving the car.

"Maimunah and Nur Ardieana were pronounced dead at the scene while Kamarudin passed away at Setiu Hospital.

"Another daughter of the couple, Nur Azwa Shamimi Kamarudin, 21, who was sitting in the rear-left passenger seat, was seriously injured while the driver and a passenger of the 4WD sustained minor injuries," he said in a statement.

He added that initial investigations suggest that the 4WD was travelling from the direction of Kota Baru (Kelantan) to the Gong Pauh wholesale market in Kuala Terengganu when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The car then swerved into the opposite lane, colliding with the family's car.

"The family of four was travelling from Kuala Terengganu to Jalan Telipot in Kota Baru. All the victims were taken to Setiu Hospital," he said.

DSP Mohd Zain also confirmed the 24-year-old 4WD driver, a vegetable seller, was detained for further investigation for reckless driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - Bernama
