PETALING JAYA: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds have been forecast until 7pm on Monday (Nov 25) in several locations across Malaysia, including Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Selangor.
In an advisory issued by the Meteorological Department at 4pm Saturday (Nov 22), thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected over Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak (Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak), Pahang (Cameron Highlands), Selangor (Sabak Bernam, Kuala Selangor, Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang), Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru) on the peninsula.
Thunderstorms are also expected in Bintulu (Bintulu and Sebauh), Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi), and Limbang in Sarawak.
In Sabah, the affected areas are Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Nabawan), West Coast (Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Ranau and Kota Belud), and Sandakan (Tongod). The Federal Territory of Labuan is also effected.
The warning is effective until 7pm Monday.
According to MetMalaysia, a thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning valid for a period not exceeding six hours for a single issue.
A warning is issued when there are signs of a thunderstorm with an intensity of rain exceeding 20 millimetres per hour (mm/hour) that is imminent or expected to occur for more than an hour.
