KOTA BARU: A flood warning has been issued for villages in Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas.

The National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre issued the alert late last Saturday night following a continuous rain warning by the Meteorological Department, with rising river water levels expected to exceed the danger level.

It said floods are expected to hit low-lying areas within 5km of Sungai Golok, Bernama reported.

The villages in danger of being hit by floods are Kampung Kubang Rambutan, Kampung Tok Deh, Kampung Tersang, Kampung Baroh Pial, Kampung Kubang Pak Hitam, Kampung Siput, Kampung Kedai Lama, Kampung Lubok Gong, Kampung Kok Pauh and Kampung Tok Rusa.

Other villages on the special watch include Kampung Banggol Sepuleh, Kampung Kalor, Kampung Lanchang, Kampung Gual Nibung, Kampung Banggul, Kampung Padang Licin and Kampung Serongga.

The centre said the warning was issued to enable the villagers to be vigilant and comply with instructions issued by disaster management agencies.
