ACTOR Akmal Ahmad has had to deal with not getting paid so many times that it has made him wary of taking up roles in theatre productions, reported Harian Metro.
Akmal said he has been a victim of many deceitful producers who were either slow to make payments or had even ghosted him after he took part in live theatre performances.
“Some producers claimed to be supported by influential people or members of royalty as patrons but then they disappeared and didn’t make the payments.
“Others cancelled two weeks before the performance, after many of us involved had already turned down other acting offers.
“We have families to support, which is why I decided enough is enough with the theatre, despite my love for it,” he told the daily.
The actor said these issues have forced him to turn down many offers to star in theatre productions over the past five years.
Akmal is best known for his role as Cikgu Rasyid in the popular local horror mystery show Hilang, which aired from 2022 to 2023.
> A crop-munching wild male elephant in Gua Musang has finally been captured after it disrupted the lives of residents for over a month, the daily also reported.Kelantan Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said complaints of the hungry animal first surfaced early last month in the Lojing district.
The department dispatched its Elephant Capture Unit, which managed to capture the massive creature near the Lojing Eco R&R (rest and relaxation) stop last Friday.
“The operation to relocate and release the elephant into a more suitable and safe habitat will be carried out soon with assistance from the National Elephant Conservation Centre in Pahang,” he said.
Mohamad Hafid said residents, especially farmers, have also been advised to prevent or mitigate human-wildlife conflict with the over 30 or so elephants remaining in the nearby Lojing Permanent Forest Reserve.
This includes clearing their farms of overgrown bushes and building electric fencing systems around their farms.
