KUALA LUMPUR: The final phase of construction for the first Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) is scheduled to be completed by the year-end, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
The Defence Ministry said the ship will then be sent for the Harbour Acceptance Test (HAT) and Sea Acceptance Trial (SAT) by the Royal Malaysian Navy for a period of two years.
“The second LCS will meanwhile enter water before it undergoes HAT and SAT assessments by mid-2025,” it said in a written reply on Tuesday (Nov 26).
The ministry said LCS’ current procurement status encompasses elements of design, construction equipment and tests.
As of Aug 25, the ministry said progress stands at 69.58%, ahead of the initially set 69.5%.
This puts it at a positive of 0.08%.
The ministry was responding to questions by Halimah Ali (PN-Kapar) and Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik) who had asked about the ministry’s efforts in ensuring national security on Malaysia’s seas.
“The ministry remains committed in fulfilling its responsibilities to defend the country’s sovereignty and ensure its assets are prepared in handling any sea threats especially along the South China Sea,” it said.
