KL ranks eighth in best cities for expats to reside in, Saifuddin tells Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur ranks eighth out of 49 major cities worldwide for high-value foreign residents or expatriates to live in, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail told the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Nov 26).

The Home Affairs Minister said the data was released by the Expat City ranking 2023.

According to him, the main attractions for expatriates are the relatively low cost of living for them, in addition to political stability.

"Thirdly, they see the potential for economic vibrancy. Also, the skill level among local coworkers. They find it easy to communicate due to the mastery of language, and these factors contributed to Malaysia's eighth ranking last year," he said in Parliament on Tuesday.

He was responding to a question from Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) about the number and percentage of expatriates in Malaysia by country breakdown and their economic contribution from 2019 to 2023.
