SHAH ALAM: A drug syndicate shipping narcotics overseas has been crippled after police arrested its transporter and storekeeper.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Khaw Kok Chin said two suspects were arrested on Nov 21 in Sekinchan following a raid at a guesthouse there.

The two, a local man and an Indonesian woman, were caught in a room, with the police also seizing around 83.15g of suspected syabu.

“Following the arrest, the male suspect led police to a car that was parked around the Sungai Air Tawar area.

“Upon inspection, 91 plastic packages containing around 94.64kg of suspected syabu were found,” Comm Khaw told a press conference yesterday.

In total, he said police seized RM3.3mil in drugs.

He said investigations showed the two acted as the storekeeper for the syndicate.

“The drugs were intended for Indonesia. We believe the racket already successfully sent one shipment of drugs before this,” he said.

“They were paid around RM140,000 for one transaction to deliver to the set destination.

“The syndicate has been active for around three months. The male suspect was found to have two prior criminal offences and five drug-related ones,” he added.

Comm Khaw said police believed there were others linked to the syndicate and that investigations were underway to identify them.

He added that the department will work with their Indonesian counterparts on the case.

In an unrelated matter, Comm Khaw said 16 drug dens in Selangor were busted between January and October.

A total of 553 raids were conducted, leading to 2,136 arrests.

“These include both drug pushers and drug users,” he said.

Of those arrested, 254 were caught for supplying drugs with another 576 arrested for drug possession.
