KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is ready to be a "mentor" to anyone aspiring to become Prime Minister, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.
The veteran statesman, who has been prime minister twice, said his office is always open to those who aspire to do so.
"I have the Perdana Leadership Foundation. If you want to become a leader, come to my foundation.
"I will teach you how to become a PM," Sinar Harian quoted him as saying at the launch of the book "Idealis: Syed Hamid Albar" here on Wednesday (Nov 27).
Dr Mahathir added that the current political situation is much different from before, which he found easier.
"We don't need to inspire people to become PM. There was no question of who should be the PM in the past.
"But now, they form parties to become PM. So, I suggest appointing not one but several people. Everyone can be happy because they get to be PM," he said.
