KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kelantan and Terengganu has deteriorated, leading to increased evacuations overnight, while the circumstances in Johor remain largely unchanged.
In Kelantan, a significant increase in evacuations has been reported, with 5,493 individuals from 1,682 families relocated to 76 relief centres in nine districts as at 12.40pm on Wednesday (Nov 27).
This is a stark increase from the 250 people from 36 families that were evacuated last night.
According to the Social Welfare Department's Info Bencana portal, the districts affected include Kota Baru, Pasir Mas, Bachok, Tanah Merah, Kuala Krai, Pasir Puteh, Jeli, Machang, and Tumpat.
Based on information from the publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my portal, six rivers in the state have exceeded their danger points.
These include Sungai Golok in Pasir Mas; Sungai Melor at Jambatan Melor, Bachok; Sungai Lanas in Air Lanas, Jeli; Sungai Kelantan at Kampung Temangan, Machang; Sungai Galas in Dabong, Kuala Krai; and Sungai Semerak, Pasir Puteh.
Bernama checks revealed that heavy rainfall overnight led to flash floods in several main roads in Kota Baru on Wednesday morning.
The heavy rain caused nearby rivers to overflow, creating difficulties for vehicles attempting to pass through these areas.
In Terengganu, 1,220 evacuees from 384 families were seeking shelter at 42 relief centre centres in the state as at 12.40pm Wednesday.
The effected districts include Besut, Setiu, Marang and Kuala Terengganu.
The publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my portal listed seven locations on six rivers at the danger level as at 12.15pm Wednesday.
These include Sungai Tebak at Jabatan Tebak, Kemaman; Sungai Setiu at Kg Besut, Setiu; Sungai Besut at Jambatan Keruak and Kg La; Sungai Dungun at Kg Raja Pasir; Sungai Telemong at Kuala Ping (1); Sungai Chalok at Jambatan Chalok; and Sungai Tersat at Kampung Sekayu (F1).
In Johor, the Info Bencana portal reported that 28 evacuees from eight families are seeking shelter in one relief centre in Segamat. – Bernama
