Penang cops nab 11 members of organised crime in special ops


GEORGE TOWN: Cops nabbed 11 people linked to organised crime since 2020 in a special operation on Tuesday (Nov 26).

Penang deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the 11 men were arrested at various places around Penang Island at about 3.30am during the Ops Cantas Mutiara.

"The ops was carried out by the Penang Criminal Investigation Department assisted by the Bukit Aman's Organised Crime Division and Special Operations Division.

"The 11 men have been arrested on suspicion of engaging in group activities involving various crimes.

"This group has been active since 2020," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 27).

He said the case was being investigated under Section 130V of the Penal Code, for being members of organised crime.

"They have been remanded under Section 4(5) of Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma) for 28 days from Wednesday to Dec 28," he said.
