PETALING JAYA: Entrepreneurial youths must be willing to take risks and plan ahead if they want to succeed, says Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications Minister called on youths to take a more open-minded approach to career or business opportunities that may change their life.
“With so many unique business ideas and companies popping up everyday, youths must be more open and daring if they wish to stand out from the crowd.
“We must always remember that ideas can come from places we don't expect, which is exemplified by the origin stories of the many of the biggest companies today such as AirAsia.
“While not all ideas may work out, youths must be willing to take risks and never give up,” he told thousands of youths during The Success Story of Malaysia Ideas forum at the Malaysia Ideas Summit (MyIDEAS) on Wednesday (Nov 27).
With Fahmi acting as the moderator, the forum itself saw a number of influential business leaders describe their challenges and journey towards their current success.
This included AirAsia Founder Tan Sri Tony Fernandes who described his journey of turning the airline, which he acquired for RM1 in 2001 and had significant liabilities, into the renowned trusted brand it is today.
Through the discussions, Fahmi said that the way an idea is executed was the make-or-break moment for any budding entrepreneur.
“No matter how good an idea may be, how it is executed along with the fine details will usually be the defining factor to its success.
“Whether it be entrepreneurial aspirations or just career goals, all youths should approach their ideas with a certain level of details or the risk of failure will increase.
“As such, all youths should be open, be brave but also be cautious when pursuing their dreams or opportunities,” he added.
MyIDEAS, which is held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre, will run for three days from Nov 27 to 29.
The summit will see dozens of experts, thinkers, leaders, academics and leaders from various industries come together to discuss and share their ideas and solutions to the public.
It is among the key features of the Putrajaya Festival of Ideas (Putrajaya FOI), which was designed to be a platform for youths to share innovative ideas and success stories while fostering collaboration and intellectual exchange.
Other activities include the Madani Career Carnival, which will see over 2,000 jobs offered by more than 100 employers from various industries as well as career counselling services.
