Sandakan man gets 10 years' jail, caning for abusing stepdaughter

KOTA KINABALU: A labourer in Sandakan district has been sentenced to 10 years in jail and three strokes of the cane for sexually abusing his six-year-old stepdaughter.

The 24-year-old pleaded guilty when the charges were read before Sessions judge Zaini Fishir @ Fisal on Wednesday (Nov 27).

The man was accused of abusing the girl between November last year and Nov 13 this year.

It was not stated in the charge sheet how many times he committed the offence.

He was accused of committing sexual abuse while knowing full well the nature of his actions.

The matter came to light when the girl told her 62-year-old grandmother, who then lodged a police report on Nov 5.

The man was arrested at a house in Sandakan at 5.45am on Nov 13.
