Additional flood relief centres opened in Kedah as water levels rise

ALOR SETAR: Continuous rain over three days has caused water levels at the Pedu Dam to rise, prompting the opening of two additional flood relief centres at SK Sri Bakti and SK Kuala Nerang.

The Kedah Civil Defence Force has urged the public to remain vigilant to prevent loss of life or property.

"If evacuation orders are issued, ensure that important documents are taken along to facilitate administrative processes," the state defence force advised in a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 28).

Kedah Civil Defence Force Deputy Director Major Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said flood victims from the Kubang Pasu and Sik districts are currently accommodated in seven relief centres.

"In Sik, 34 victims from 13 families are housed at Dewan Keda Kota Aur, which has been operational since Wednesday (Nov 27)," he said in a statement.

In neighbouring Perlis, state Civil Defence Force Director Lt Col Mohd Izami Md Daud reported a rise in flood victims, with 243 people from 69 families now displaced, compared to 149 individuals from 43 families the previous day.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and provide necessary assistance to affected communities.
