Aid for caregivers may be increased in 2025, Dr Noraini tells Parliament

KUALA LUMPUR: Aid for caregivers of persons with disabilities might be increased to RM600 from RM500 per month next year, says the Women, Family and Community Development Deputy Minister.

Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad mentioned that the aid has benefited 28,832 caregivers with an allocation of RM130mil for this year up to October.

She added that currently, there are three aid schemes for persons with disabilities: for disabled workers, caregivers of the disabled, and for disabled persons who are incapable of work.

She said this while winding up Budget 2025 debates for the ministry at the committee level in Dewan Rakyat on Thursday (Nov 28).

For the disabled worker allowance, she noted that it benefits 95,239 recipients, with a total allocation of RM388.1mil, and each individual receives RM450 per month.

For aid to disabled persons who are incapable of work, the rate is RM300 a month, distributed to 112,519 unemployed disabled persons.

She added that the income eligibility threshold for working OKU was raised from RM1,500 to RM1,700, while the household income eligibility requirement for the chronically ill increased from RM3,000 to RM5,000.

"That means, we hope, the aid can help more people," she said.
