Barisan Nasional's golden jubilee celebration set for Dec 7, says Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional will celebrate its Golden Jubilee celebration of Barisan Nasional (BN) on Dec 7, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan chairman said this decision was made during the BN supreme council meeting, which he chaired at the BN Meeting Room, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, on Wednesday (Nov 27) night.

"May the discussions and decisions made in this meeting continue to strengthen the struggle of the Barisan Nasional team. Insya-Allah. Barisan Nasional, champion of the people's aspirations," the Deputy Prime Minister said in a Facebook post Thursday (Nov 28).

Ahmad Zahid also revealed that the meeting discussed current issues closely related to the interests and welfare of the people.

BN is currently composed of Umno, MCA, MIC, and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).

The coalition, formed on June 1, 1974, by the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, who was then the Prime Minister of Malaysia and Umno president, was established to replace the Alliance Party (comprised of Umno, MCA and MIC). The aim was to strengthen unity among the diverse political parties in Malaysia.

At its peak, BN had 13 component parties. - Bernama
