POLICE in China’s Zhejiang province have confiscated 7 million yuan (RM4.31mil) worth of fake down jackets from a factory after it was found that they did not contain any duck feathers, reported China Press.
The factory came under suspicion after the children’s jackets, advertised to contain 70% duck down, were being sold at below-market prices.
Upon inspection, police discovered that the jackets did not contain duck feathers and were filled with other materials instead.
They arrested three suspects at the factory and confiscated all the items.
According to a source in the fashion industry, goose and duck down are expected to cost 30% to 40% more this year, causing many manufacturers to skimp on the material.
Some companies are advertising jackets that contain 90% duck feathers but the actual content is only 50%.
Present market prices for 1kg of 90% duck and goose down is 504 yuan (RM310) and 1,000 yuan (RM677), respectively.

Lin, 34, was a social media influencer since 2014 before he was signed as a singer for a record label in 2015, marking her foray into the entertainment industry.
