A fishmonger in Bagan Serai, Perak, who was selling Scombrini fish (ikan temenung) for just 30 sen each sold out his entire stock of 500kg in a single night.
Haris Hanis, 21, told Utusan Malaysia he did not expect sales of the 30-sen fish to be so hot.
“This is the first time we sold ikan temenung at the Rahmah Sales in Bagan Serai.
“We were invited by the main trader so local residents can have a variety of daily necessities,” he said.
Haris said he brought 500kg of fish to sell at the fair.
“I sourced supplies from various places and took the initiative to sell at a low price and help low-income groups,” he said.
Haris added that all the ikan temenung were sold out in less than two hours, leaving only prawns for sale at RM15 per kilogramme.
